A man came to my side door & knocked. He identified himself as the owner of Allstone Paving. He said my name is Jack and I own this company & he pointed down the street & said “see? That’s my equipment”.
He said look I can replace your laneway today for $4,000.00.
I said I wouldn’t get my laneway done anyway until my neighbor *** was having hers done, since our laneways were connected & I didn’t want a line visible between our laneway. He said she is getting her laneway done & that his associate has already spoken to her. Which I later found out to be false and that *** wasn’t even home.
He also said his company had paved the neighbor’s laneways across the street from us, which I later found out to also be false.
I told him that I couldn’t afford my laneway being paved at this time. As I turned to walk away he grabbed my arm and said, look look look look, just let us start the work and we can worry about the payment later.
I again reminded him I could not afford this at this time. He said look because I own the company I can make special arrangements.
I said my old pavement had to be removed entirely. He said “Oh yes we will do that”. In fact he only scraped the top asphalt layer from the front of my laneway and did not remove the old asphalt along my side deck or between the side deck & back fence. By paving over top of the old asphalt it raised my laneway several inches and prevented my rain barrel from being put back in place. Since they removed the rain barrel, they knew it had to go back.
After his crew started the work I also realized they were in fact not paving ***’s laneway. He said don’t worry there wouldn’t be a line that I could see. In fact the line is visible.
When they left I discovered they had thrown garbage from ********* in my green bin, in my garbage shed and all over my lawn. I picked it all up and was furious. Later the following day the crew came back to shovel up the old asphalt on the road and I saw them shoveling it into my green bins. I ran out and told them they couldn’t do that & to empty it all out. They pretended they didn’t understand English until the truck driver told them to empty it out & put it in the back of their truck. (Which they understood quite well, and they did so!)
They left boards & metal with screws sticking out, on the side of the road.
They broke the caution tape I had purchased myself & tied across the front of my lawn to keep people off my newly seeded lawn.
After they were finished they demanded their $4,000.00 cash. I told them I still can’t pay them right away. They were furious.
I told them I could pay a portion when I received my senior’s pension at the end of the month but nothing before. They said “we’ll drive you to the bank”. I refused and reminded them what they had said. The one man said he was going to fire the other one who had identified himself as the owner. Which made me feel badly & cry but I still could not afford anything.
Then I discovered the asphalt was around my awning pillars and over the base of my brand new PVC fence.
When I tried to phone them back, the phone number on their business card was disconnected. I reached them on the phone number on the flyer that they were handing out.
I told them they had to cut away the new asphalt that was around my awning posts & from around my fence. They refused.
They tried to pressure me to sell my puppies at a loss of $2400.00 to me, just to pay them the $4000.00.
I offered them 3 male puppies that were worth $4,500.00 and they said they would take the puppies & sell them quickly for $1000.00 each. I don’t care if they resell the puppies at a loss to themselves but I will not do this myself.
I refuse to do so.
I will now have to pay another reputable company to come & clean up their damages to my fence & around my awning posts and to scrape the top layer of asphalt off & repave it. I may need to replace my 4 awning posts.
That money will come out of the $4,000.00 & may in fact surpass the $4000.00 mark. So I am glad that I didn’t pay them up front.

After the fact, I had some regrets about my rash decision and looked for online reviews of the company. Absolutely nothing came up on major sites such as BBB, Reddit, Facebook, Yelp or Google reviews. The only 2 reviews I could find are on their own website, and seem made up. The website itself has only been active since August 2022 and is very generic looking. I checked the "Our Projects" section on their site; did a reverse lookup on some of the pictures and everything was taken from other sites and companies. I looked for their address online and their Company doesn't even show up for this address. I called to cancel, and left a message on their voicemail.
