My 94 year old aunt answered the phone and the caller said they were from Medicare and had back brace ready for shipping to my elderly aunt. The brace was no cost to the caller, Medicare would pay for everything. Asked for confirmation of name, address, ss# “for Medicare purposes”. My aunt mistakenly gave them the information and next thing you know a back brace showed up via UPS and we saw on her Medicare statement that approx $700 was paid by Medicare for a back brace that looks just like the kind worn by the workers at Home Depot. My aunt doesn’t even have a back problem. The information with the back brace says it was “prescribed by your physician”. I called the returns number, was told the physician who prescribed the brace was their phone physician, we could return it if we didn’t want it, and they would pick up the back brace via UPS on the next business day. I am awaiting pick up now and awaiting to see if Medicare is refunded the charge.
