They also said they'd be notifying the winners over the next few weeks. If this were legit, they'd be notifying all the winners at the same time as there's no reason to delay. Unless, of course, they're just trying to get money for the awards.
Lastly, I googled the name of the company itself, usawards-business, and it came up in the US BBA as a scam. Despite using the BBA logo, they are not part of the organization. In fact, the BBA lists the company as a scam.
This is what was in the email sent to me:
The Alpine Award Program purpose to support and offer public recognition of the contributions of businesses and organizations in and around Alpine. It is your option to have us send you one of the 2022 Awards that have been designed for display at your business. As an Award recipient, there is no membership obligation. We just ask each Award recipient to pay the cost of their awards. The revenue generated by the Alpine Award Program helps to pay for local business support and partnership programs.
There are several award types, sizes and shipping options. We can also supply you with a digital award image, made during the award production process, at no extra charge for use on your website or social marketing.
