Type of a scam Home Improvement
I was also texted at my phone number with a message saying, "if you are still interested in asphalt paving, respond with 1." This was not a legitimate automated transactional text.
A woman acted as a "call center" associate and attempted to "schedule" an estimate. They called again later that day and asked if I was going to be home during a specific time. When I asked to be called back because it wasn't a good time, they were pushy and told me they were "in the area" and this would only take a couple of minutes. The man/caller asked questions about how big the driveway was and what we wanted to do with it. He insisted that covering the existing concrete with asphalt was the best "bang for your buck." He also insisted upfront, without prompt, his "business credentials" and how long he's been in business. He insisted, without seeing the driveway, that it would cost $3000. Then he asked me to take a picture of the driveway to send to him. He asked when I wanted it to be done, and I said I didn't have a timeline, I was just gathering information. He insisted that "prices were going to go up" if I waited, and I asked why. He, at that point, became very pushy and asked "do you want to do this or not." At that point, I said, no, I did not want to proceed based on his attitude. He then became aggressive and saying I was "bull****ing him around and playing games." I promptly hung up. I anticipate he wanted a down payment that would never be honored.
