Total money lost $1,200
Type of a scam Phishing
They said they needed to verify that it was really my account and since there is no verification center in Honolulu, that I could use their partner company Walgreen’s. They would make a deposit into my credit card account (They had the last 4 digits and sent me this text: Your account************#### is credited with $200.00 on Fri, Jul 21st 2023 for the Physical Verification Process. This entire process may take 30-40 minutes. Ref. ID 24248544CR. Call (669)-599-1902 for any assistance if required. Thank you for contacting us. Amazon Customer Service).
Then they instructed me to go to Walgreen’s and purchase a gift card for that same amount. Then they instructed me to take a picture of the receipt which would verify I was really in Honolulu.
Then they instructed me to go to Safeway and do the same thing again, only this time four gift cards for $500 each, which was the same amounts the scammers had done. I started to lose my patience and ask questions, but the woman assured me she was a senior supervisor and I just had to do what she said because the scammers were online watching and this all had to take place within a certain period of time. She said the scammers were online watching me and I should not go to my credit card website, etc.
I was able to finally come to my senses but not until after I had purchased $1,200 on my credit card. Amazon said they can do nothing, they didn’t even worried that there were people impersonating them. My credit card said they can do nothing because I was the one making the purchases.
669 is a San Jose number. I am hoping you can help me.
