They tried to get me to go online and set up an account to pay bills online.

I got a call today saying that it was Ameren and that my electric was going to be disconnected. It was a live call. He had a foreign accent. My account is paid full; I knew it was a scam. He knew where I lived and how much I owed for the next bill. I called Ameren. I couldn't get through to them. He wanted me to pay him over the phone with a credit card.

- Peoria, IL, USA

I received a call saying it was from oncology hematology and when I answered it was a recorded call from Ameren Illinois saying my service was going to be disconnected (because of a balance owed) within 30 minutes if I didn't call them back as prompted. I immediately hung up the phone.

- Saint Louis, MO, USA

A person called and said I owed on my Ameren bill. I told them I was already paid up and he said that I will still need to call this 800 and satisfy the debt there.

Company calling stated they were Ameren Cilco and my electricity was going to get shut off.

They called said they were Ameren Il and I had 30 minutes to pay my bill. They said the bill was past due and if I didn't pay my power would be shut off.

- Florissant, MO, USA

This company called me stating my Ameren service would be turned off if I didn't pay $349.78. My bill is current. They told me I needed to cash app the money to $amerenpayments. Then they told me their cash app was down and I could download Zelle and send the money that way. They gave me the information to send it on zelle. I called Ameren and they were aware of this scam.

The caller said they were going to cut off my electric in 30 minutes due to non payment

Called and left a voicemail that my power would be turned off. Tgey said they were Ameren.

They called to say the Ameren account was not paid and overdue. It wasn't.

The caller ID did show Ameren and their residential contact number.

I also looked up the number on whitepages.com and it shows it belongs to a school in another city.

It was definitely a scam. I called Ameren and they said they were getting a lot of calls due to the imposter calls.

I got two calls about this. There happened to be an Ameren Truck on the church's parking lot and I got call (I'm the pastor) that the electric would shut off in 20 minutes if I didn't pay. They gave me a phone number and I called and spoke to someone. After some talking, trying to reconcile it, he hung up on me.

- Fairview Heights, IL, USA

I got a call from "Ameren" saying they were going to shut off my electric. I've had 8 of these calls in the last two weeks; five alone today. They wanted to know my account number (if they are truly Ameren they would know the number.) They threatened me that a truck was waiting to come shut off the services. They also asked for a $500 gift card.

- Saint Albans, MO, USA

I was in the automated portion of Ameren's phone number. I gave my account number. Then she asked for me to spell my name. I got transferred again. I got a person that didn't speak English very well. He asked if he could help me. He wouldn't tell me who he was. I have called Ameren and told them what happened. They told me to always ask to be transferred to a live representative.

- Imperial, MO, USA

I got a call from "Ameren" telling me that they were enroute to shut my power off due to lack of payment. I had already paid the bill two weeks' prior, but the person wanted my account number. They increased the amount I owed to $341.21 when my bill was $180.00.They wanted me to call Joseph at extension 207 to make a payment. When I called back, the same person answered.

A young, white, brunette man with a badge around his neck and a smartphone came to my door and told me he was a representative of my energy company (Ameren), claiming that he had to go around to the doors of each person in my apartment, so he could lower their monthly energy payment (I know it sounds obvious when I write it here, but he made it sound believable). He asked me for a copy of my most recent electricity bill, and at the time I wasn't suspicious of him, so I showed it to him, and he recorded my name and account number. He then asked for my phone number and email address, at which point I started to get suspicious. I asked him, "Wouldn't Ameren already have that information?" But he gave some plausible-sounding answer, so I gave him my real email and a fake phone number, and he asked me to sign my name on a form he had on his phone, verifying that he had the correct information. He called somebody on speaker phone, and relayed my account number and (fake) phone number to the person who answered. Then he hung up and told me he was going to wait there while they called me so I could once again verify my information, and tell the person who called what the name of my energy provider is. I was getting more and more suspicious by the minute, so I took the opportunity to say I was going to call Ameren and make sure everything checks out. He made a couple attempts to dissuade me from calling Ameren, correctly pointing out that it's a Sunday, so they're closed and no one would answer the phone. However, I insisted on calling them and found that he was right about them being closed. I suspect that's why they do the scam on Sundays, to make it harder for people to get in contact with anyone who could verify that they are who they say they are. But in the time it took me to make the call and clear my head, it had become very obvious to me that the scammer was in fact a scammer, so when I went back to the door to talk to him, I asked him more pointed questions, and told him how strange it was that I had never before encountered anyone from Ameren coming to my door unannounced, and he started to act defensive, and ask non sequitur questions like "how long have you been living here?" And then I asked how he got into the apartment building, and if he could tell me the code required to unlock the door to the building. He said "I don't have to explain myself to you", and I shut the door in his face. I googled around for "door to door energy scam", and confirmed that that's exactly what was going on. I went out into the hallway to see if any of my neighbors were being scammed, but at that point he was already gone.

Received a call around 9 AM at Port Cape Girardeau from a Caller ID that read “Ameren.” When I picked up, I heard an automated message telling me power would be disconnected in 30 minutes due to non payment unless this 800 number was called and payment was received. I asked Ameren employees outside about it and they said their supervisor had received the same call earlier that morning. It is a scam designed to get the buyer to go to the store, purchase a temp money card, and “pay off” their utility bill by reading off the card number to the collector. They have attempted this scam months prior and are attempting it again.

I received a phone call from supposedly Ameren about a bill. I got a call from Louis Martinez saying he was with Ameren and they are going to disconnect my service because I haven't paid. They said all systems are down so I would have to pay today by Moneypak in order for them not to send a technician out and shut it off. I also spoke to Emily Diaz. I looked at my bill and it isn't due yet. I called Ameren and they said I don't owe anything yet. I almost fell for it.

The Cadmus Group sent a customer survey for Ameren to me. I checked with Ameren and they said that this was a scam. This company had my name, and address. They would enter us into a drawing. They sent me to a website.

They called stating they were with Ameren, and our bill was past due and was about to be shut off. They were transferred to me, as I handle payables. They told me the electric bill was past due and needed to be paid right now or would be shut off. First, Ameren is a gas company, second, I asked them to verify our account number because of so many scams, and then he instantly hung up.

Man showed up at door. He was a white male, around 6'1" with an Ameren pin and muddy work boots. He came to our home around 12am. The only car in the driveway was mine and the garage door was shut (it is typically open when my husband is home). The man said we were late on on Electric bill and needed to pay immediately to avoid getting the electric shut off. I didn't think that sounded right so I said, "let me get my husbanded, he's in the other room." As soon as he heard "husband," the man just quickly blurted out "just get it paid" and then hurried off. I thought it was unusual so I contacted Ameren-they said they never send people to doors. I also notified the local police department.
