However, these phone numbers are definitely NOT American Airlines but lead to high-pressure operators trying to charge customers a lot of money to make changes to tickets, which is a free or low-cost service that the airline provides directly.
The scammer then sent me an email coming from "Flight Trip Charge" to authorize a transaction for hundreds of dollars, but I grew suspicious and did not approve it. So, I took down their phone number 855-738-1940, and then instead I made extra sure to contact American Airlines directly in order to change the name on my ticket.
Unfortunately, seeing other ScamPulse.com complaints here, many unwitting travelers seem to be falling into this trap and being misled into paying spurious high charges to an inauthentic operator.
Later, I discovered that these same phone numbers (plus 800-657-2602) come up on Google searches about how to make changes to United, Delta, Frontier, Alaska, JetBlue, Air Canada, JetBlue, Air France, Aeromexico, Allegiant, and KLM airline tickets, as well... This trick has apparently been accomplished by spamming community message boards across the Internet with false information. So, Google clearly has some work to do here. The whole thing is pretty shameful.
