I Googled American Airlines customer service to confirm a rescheduled flight. I found a number but didn’t check the URL. They proceeded to help me with cancellation and rebooking, were very convincing until they kept asking information and I realized they were probably not legit. I gave them credit card and billing address. They sent an email to confirm but I did not give consent and froze my credit card. They attempted to charge me twice.

I was unable to check in online, so I Googled how to speak with a live American Airlines Customer Service Person and a number that showed up was 866 738 0699. I spoke with "Brandon" and gave him my flight record locator number. He then told me that the reason that I could not check in was because I had an "outstanding balance" from "government taxes and an airport service charge" for $491.38. He said that I would need to pay this immediately. I said that I would have to check my emails and get back to him. He said that there were only 3 seats left on the flight, and that I should call him back directly at 888 829 1289. We suspected something was wrong, so we then called the direct American Airlines number to confirm things directly. We searched this scam and apparently these people are stealing airplane miles and who knows what else, because they can see the last few digits of your personal info with the record locator number.

I work at the New York State Department ** ***. I found out this morning this company called my privet work phone yesterday at 3:30 p.m.
