When asked who they were. They said american chamber of commerce? Told them I would call them back and the person got agitated and hung up.

The person on the phone said she was from the American Chamber of Commerce. At first she just asked about the name of our organization and its address, but then she tried asking about the CEO. That's when I asked her who she was and where she was calling from, and then she hung up.

I work at a company in downtown Boise, ID. I received a phone call from someone representing themselves as the American Chamber of Commerce, and it didn't feel right so I pressed the caller to explain who they were with in detail. The caller simply told me to have a good day and hung up. I Googled American Chamber of Commerce and found details on a phishing scam.

"contacted and asked to provide information to update their listing in the Chamber of Commerce directory. The call is coming from a call center with the telephone number 402-403-0068. The caller will identify himself/herself as being with the American Chamber of Commerce, which does not exist. The callers are trying to confuse businesses with the US Chamber of Commerce. I received a call at my business from a lady with a southern accent stating she was the "American Chamber of Commerce."This individual asked to verify my business address and the correct spelling of my first and last name. The phone number she called from was 402-403-0068.

I asked her questions and she eventually hung up on me, however, she did get the correct spelling of my name, which scares me!

Watch out for scammers posing as representatives from the American Chamber of Commerce. They are targeting small business owners and their employees. The “chamber representative” will ask to verify general business information as well as employee information.

The catch: There is no American Chamber of Commerce. Further, it should not be confused with the legitimate organization – the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Don’t confirm any information with these scammers. Any information that you supply will be sold on the black market and used for corporate identity theft or to target your business for a myriad of other scams.

Our business has received multiple (approximately 5-6) calls per day from a "Private" number asking if they have reached the office of so-and-so. Some are current employees, and some are former employees. When I ask who is calling, they tell me they are updating info for "the Chamber of Commerce". I was curious as to why their number would show up as "Private" and asked WHICH Chamber of Commerce. I was told, "the American Chamber of Commerce", just before the lady on the other end hung up on me. I did a Google search and saw that this has been reported as a phishing scam in Mississippi where nformation is being collected to use for future scams in some way and that all calls should be reported as there is NO American Chamber of Commerce.
