On April 2nd 2020 i was at my mailbox when a young man in a black Toyota mid-size car pulled in to my drive way( I did not see the car model) He said he left a brochure about his Dad's construction company on my front door. I said I was laid off and home most of the time due to Covid-19 and never saw anything like that. he said he had something that would re-surface my front porch which had some peeling paint and had some cracks, he looked at it closely, remarked it had been painted and i said it probably looked worse than it was. He mentioned in vague terms. not a product name he had a waterproof flexible sealant and started walking along the side of my house and asked if i had any leaks in my home, which i said i did. He said he had some guys working nearby and some left over material which normally cost $89.00 a gallon but he could use on my house and charge $59.00 a gallon and not charge for labor and the material had a 15 year guarantee. I asked how much it would need and he said he would make up a pail and it might not need it all, i assumed it may be several hundred dollars and to proceed, hoping it would take care of the leak. After working for a while he called me down and said it was taking the whole mixture and would have to another pail, it looked like a cement color he mixed with water, he also used a product in a spray can and did not even cover entirely a 6'x6' area, i did not see the product names of either one and at this point did not think it would be more than $500.00. Every time I asked how much the cost was going to be, even after working he said he would have to figure it out but i was only getting charged for material. Finally he was done so we went inside to settle up. he got out a calculator and came up with $1200.00! I said there was no way i was paying that and he said maybe he could do a little better and came up with $1000.00 , I said it was still too much and he said if i paid cash it would be $900.00 he also said he did not have time to cash a check. I said i could only get $500.00 out of the ATM so we decided $400.00 check, $500.00 cash and i went to the bank and he went back to the other job and i again asked for a business card. When he came back he did not bring a business card and i was very suspicious and did not have a receipt or business card he had the money and said he would go get card but i did not trust him and got out a pen and paper and wrote his name,Anthony Miller and phone 708 690=6509 i questioned strange area code which did seem familiar and not in Michigan, he said it was an Illinois code because they had an office there and his company was American Contracting. I gave him an hour to bring me a business card and when he didn't I tried to put a stop payment on the check, i agreed to a $25.00 fee but he had already cashed the check, even after he said he did not have the time to! To finish the story it rained last night and i checked my basement this morning and there was moisture on the floor where he worked and when I tried to call his number, several times i got a recording that said voice mail was not set up and then disconnected.
