American Cruise Lines Reports & Reviews (1)

I applied for a Server position with American Cruise Lines about three weeks ago. I went through an interview and onboarding process through Zoom from my home state (Missouri) where the recruiting and onboarding departments painted the company out to be rainbows and unicorns. Through out the job description and entire hiring/onboarding process they claimed this position to be a 28 consecutive week position. This is what we were lead to believe we were signing up for. I was flew out to Salt Lake City Utah for a three day training where I then found out that this company had been dishonest. The trainers in this establishment have clearly been trained to not answer certain questions and to cover up the flaws in this company. Not to mention that the majority of people who had been brought in for this position were under the age of 25 and very naive. On day two of training we were placed on a zoom call with a man from the crewing department back in Connecticut. His job seemed to be to let us know that what we had been promised was a lie. He let us know that even though we had been brought in for training during the month of August, that there is an off season that varies but starts anywhere from October-December and ends in February where we would most likely be sent home for the duration of this time with no pay. Which would then extend our employment with them a lot longer than the 28 consecutive weeks that were promised time and time again. Once us classmates noticed what was being said and started asking questions, the answers to our questions that seemed so necessary at this point were dodged and I started noticing strong signs of DARVO. D- Denies responsibility, ACL denied responsibility for this, stating that we should have been informed but that the reason we were not was “because we we’re hired three weeks ago” even tho being hired during this time, we are still effected. A- Attacks you, Brenda the head training leader took the most responsibility but is also the one who stood up in front of us apologizing claiming that this is the first time any frustrations like this have been brought up, and made it seem as if it was an honest mistake. I then spent some time on GlassDoor looking up reviews and noticed that this is an ongoing issue. I have a classmate who at this point has boarded a ship and has talked to other people who recently went through the training process (since they do training classes every week) and they let my classmate know that it was the same thing in their training class. Same lies, same promises. RVO- Reverses roles of Victim and Offender, Brenda and the rest of the trainers we had at the Salt Lake City training center then began expressing the RVO portion of this by over explaining how much American Cruise Lines had invested in all of us individually to pay for all of our airfare, lodging, meals, to pay us for our time. Claimed that if they didn’t see a potential in us then they wouldn’t have invested so much money into us already in this point of employment. There were more people in my class that had sold their houses, sold their cars, moved all of their belongings into storage units because they applied for a 28 consecutive week position with a company who lied and manipulated us day in and day out. American cruise lines has tore us down as workers and as people and did not blink an eye.
