I was contacted by American Doc Prep for student loan forgiveness
The loan is in my name but it is for my daughter
I now know it was a scam which I have paid them close to $2,000.
I am 67 years old, do I have any recourse as far as getting my money back

I got a letter in the mail saying this was my last chance at student loan forgiveness. I gave the woman my information and paid $840. She told me that $80,000 of my loans would be forgiven. They took my money. I want to know how to get my money back.

They called me and I thought everything was legit. She had all my information. But she needed some other things like my social. Now im really scared I dont normally do this. Now when I call her she never answers the phone. Has this happened to anyone else?

I randomly Received a call from them , and they already had my information in file since they do work with the department of education i didn't find it odd , but they did end up helping me and actually consolidated my student loans , since my loans now show up as paid in full on my credit which i'm really thankful for , don't think its a scam since they made all my loans show up as paid in full

Hi. I currently have private and federal student loans. "American Prep Doc" sent mail to my cosigner's home. My co-signer opened the mail addressed to me as she believed it was relating to private loans she co-signed. My co-signer called "American Prep Doc" and gave them my social security number, as she believed she was speaking to someone directly affiliated with my loans. I did not realize I was not speaking to Firstmark until the woman I was speaking to gave me her e-mail address. ([email protected]
) I googled the company she gave me- "American Prep Doc". I saw the BBB.com report for "Amerified Doc Prep" [https://www.bbb.org/us/ca/tustin/profile/legal-document-help/amerifed-doc-prep-...⇄ which said the company was located in Tustin, CA. I asked the woman on the phone if her company was based in Tustin, CA. She said yes. I said I may want to hold off because I see some troubling reports. She said "You're not the first person, we are a different company, don't be concerned". I asked again if her company was based in Tustin, she said yes again. She said their business, American Doc Prep, was not listed on BBB.com because they didn't pay something. (I believe she said the word, 'dues'). I said I want to hold off, and she became irritable, so I hung up the phone.

Hello, I read your story. What happened with this situation? Did they steal your identity or anything with giving them your social? The same thing happened to me and scared because I did give them my social- which I never do!
