Impending Delivery of Donation check

We were contact via email by this woman who stated: I'd like to notify you that our financial secretary has confirmed the impending delivery of the donation check to your address today. Below are the pertinent details: American Retrieval Co. 2905 Northwest Blvd. Plymouth, MN 55441 Tracking information: Courier - UPS Upon receipt and deposit of the check, kindly keep me informed. Additionally, I would appreciate it if you could email me a copy of the deposit confirmation, as I maintain records of my family's contributions. I hope this request is convenient for you. Everything checked out - as in the company is legitimate, I emailed this woman stating it was a most unusual request for a copy of a deposit receipt. I asked for the name of the family member so we could send a thank you. I did not hear back. She contacted the director again several days later asking what the delay was. I then made the deposit and sent her a copy of the receipt (no account number on receipt btw) at that time she responded directly to me and said: Thank you for confirming the deposit of the check. Upon reviewing the payment slip provided by my financial correspondent, I noticed that a donation of $4,980 was sent instead of the initially requested $2,880. It appears there might have been a misunderstanding on my part. I have discussed this matter with my husband, and we have decided to request a refund for the overpayment, which amounts to $2,100. While he was initially concerned about the error, I assured him of the integrity of your organization and our confidence that you will address this matter promptly. To streamline the process, could my financial secretary reach out to you directly? This way, both parties can collaborate to resolve this issue efficiently. Best Regards, Jill Leila Needless to say warning signs went off, I called the bank, I notified the director. I have also reached out to the company whose check was used fraudulently. I am only happy that our loss will be only the $15.00 returned item fee when the deposit is returned as fraudulent. I have found her name on this site on two other instances. I want her found and prosecuted. Who attempts to defraud a nonprofit animal humane society? I am so angry. Thank you for this site - I intend to spread the word. I found this site by the way by googling her email address. Another lesson learned.
