Someone claimed to be a recruiter with The Athletic. Put me through an online interview, then made a job offer. But it happened way too fast and there were too many red flags. I check with The Athletic and they confirmed it wasn't from them. The guy sent a formal job offer/employment contract and everything, used their actual logo, he went all-out. The process began Monday and I had an offer by Wednesday.

The initial email said they don't do phone or Zoom emails. I looked past that, but I submitted their online interview form Tuesday and got an offer Wednesday. That's really odd. I then asked about the insurance, and they said details come during orientation. Who doesn't have insurance stuff available at hire? They couldn't say who my editor would be or what I'd be covering. The pay was also ridiculous, as if to lure me in. All of that smelled bad, so I tracked down the real Athletic HR guy (they put his name on the contract to make it look authentic). He said it was BS.
