Using our work computer we received a message saying our computer had been affected and would shut down and that we needed to call a number in order to fix the issue. After several prompts from the person on the other line, I began to become suspicious and when asked to log in to download a specific program (any desk), I didn’t have credentials and was told I needed to get my supervisor and they hung up the phone. I then googled the phone number that I used and it said this was a Microsoft scam.

I was approached by email and phone call stating that my account was charged for a renewal of an anti-virus protection plan that I do not have on my computer, I was them asked to go to the web site www.anydesk.com to download a program to generate a refund ID code, which I did not do. At that time I confronted the caller that this was a scam, at which he stated don't call anymore and hung up the phone.

Scammer emailed me pretending to confirm payment for Norton 360 Deluxe through PayPal. The email came from “Willie E. Byrd” but the email address was [email protected]. The email also provided an address of Dallas, New Mexico 34019 (just comical how they didn’t even try). Scammer advised that I 24 hours to cancel and advised to call (888) 683-3037. When I called the number the scammer directed me go to www.anydesk.com (I didn’t follow any of this information of course). When I started to question them why I was being directed to a .com website instead of .org which is PayPal, scammer became irritated and hung up the phone. From the sound of the scammers, I would guess they were from either India or Sri Lanka.

I received an email claiming to be from Norton Internet security. It said that my Internet security would auto renew for an annual basis and be charged to my card that was on file. The problem was I did not have them as my Internet security provider. I called the number and the Customer service had an Indian accent there was a beeping on the line, and every time he would ask me a question and I would answer a beep would happen. He then asked me to go and get a laptop or desktop computer and log onto an unusual website. When I pulled up the website, it was to sell an insurance or different type of Internet security product. I told him this was not legitimate, and I would be reporting him. I fear that he has my contact information and my credit card information and I have been scammed.

I received a banner notification on my iPhone regarding a PayPal charge of $339 for Google Play. To the best of my knowledge, we do not use Google Play at all. Somehow, I got a number to call and hung up before anyone answered. Then my cell phone rang shortly thereafter saying "This is PayPal, we saw that you attempted to call us." I explained the situation and they said to me "Well, someone must have compromised your account. You should change your password and we have to go through this process to make sure no other charges are on there." I had to run to a meeting and asked for a number so I could call them back. See above reference Scammer Phone.

When we spoke again, they asked me to open Google Chrome and type in "Anydesk.com". Then he asked me to click the "Download Now" button, which I did. But immediately thought Red Flag, Red Flag. So I said "I am not going to give you access to my account before I know that you are truly with PayPal." He started to argue with me saying he wasn't going to remove my access. That's not what I said. So I pushed back, finally saying "OK, this call is done. I am going to hang up now." and the guy hung up on me. Then it dawned on me, when I returned the phone calls, it was to a cell phone and not a central phone system. Another red flag.

I was contacted via email by Geek Squad who provided an invoice in the amount of $249.99 for a subscription. I called the number provided on the invoice. They asked me to go to anydesk.com and download the software. I did it and immediately felt uneasy as I could see someone else’s mouse move on my screen. I was then told that in order to cancel the subscription I needed to access my bank account. After telling the person on the phone that I wasn’t going to do that, they insisted that if I didn’t login to my bank account, I’d be charged $500 a week until I gave them access. This is definitely a scam. The amount they claimed they’d charge was outrageous. If I had given them access to my bank account, they would have completely cleaned it out. Next time I suspect an email is a scam, I will ask for the bill to be mailed to me and wait for it to arrive. If they can't send it or make up an excuse, I'll know it is a scam.

So, I went ahead and applied for Kaplan as a job as I saw it in one of the boards on Facebook that I frequent. I inquired about it, and they strangely sent me a PDF check of which I forwarded to my bank to determine authenticity. They said I had to purchase Norton and a Chromebook (of which I didn't as it seemed fishy). The only thing is that I gave them my resume as it was initially done as a job post.

I keep getting emails like this:

So I called them, and this fellow at the number told me to go onto anydesk.com and then download a file from the middle of the website. I told them for you to stop sending me this invoice should be easy. He said no, the Support Department can help you with that. I would have to download a form of which I was suspicious of. They should be able to take care of it right then and there with the refund. I also was tired of the spam and even though I have been checking my credit records, I'd rather not have this stress. I then said I'll speak to your supervisor then. He said that he had none and that he was just an employee trying to make money. Then a Justin, Texas number kept calling me which was the exact same number I was calling to. I then told him I will speak to the FBI then since you are scamming me.

This scammer uses a paypal pay to get your attention! They send me an email saying that i bought a bitcoin through my paypal account and charge 499.00 dollars. They'll give you a number to call them and when you call the number someone will guide you to what needs to be done and will access your account. it is so frustrating!

I used my cash app to send my son $40. My son didn't receive the money so I searched for the Case App customer service number. I went to a website named Any Desk. Believing that I was speaking with a Cash App representative they walked me through the process of proving my information. When I checked my bank account they had taken $1990.00. My bank could not help me.

Claims to be from Amazon and says account breached. Sent money. Duh me.

There was a security alert on my mother's computer, it asked her to call 1 844-222-0252. When she called that accessed her computer and then asked her to overnight a check to them for $400. She mailed a check then contacted me about the situation. I told her to go immediately to the bank and stop the check and change her accounts.

I called them to see what the name of the company was to report it and the number was busy, within 5 minutes they called me back from 1 514-816-3985. They told me their name was On line technical Dept from LA California and they were affiliated with Amazon and Microsoft. The man I spoke with sounded Indian.

This is so upsetting, my dad recently passed and my mom is handling the computer things by herself, she is 72 and doesn't know much about computers. She panicked and made a poor judgement call because she was scared! I don't want this to happen to anyone else!

They would refund the $499.00 they were charging. The money was for a lifetime warranty. Mike wanted me to click on giving them full access, repeated how safe it was, and that if I wanted my money? So I shut everything down at that point. I had Geek Squad in Huntington Beach replac an Apple phone battery past year. I wondered if this originated from there?

Threat that my cc would be charged if I didn't cancel subscription. Several phone calls to residential home phone. I recorded one call and called the # given. Said if I did not send a written letter giving a cancellation they would charge my credit card an amount of $299.00

- Mansfield, TX, USA

Received recorded phone message telling me to call the number to cancel or renew a service (that I don't have)

Once called - told to download software to connect our desktops so that I can complete the "Cancellation form"

The remote desktop would give them access to my entire computer

They would not connect me to customer service by phone or email but demanded I download the software on a PC. I only have a Mac.

Asked them to review my charges and other account information, they couldn't

Was passed off to two other 'supervisors' to convince me to download.

- Columbus, OH, USA

Scammer tried to have me download a software account, an order to cancel a service that supposedly happen 4 years. And wanted to refund the money of 450.00 if I download the software. Scammer could not identify what account they would calling about. So, I did not download the software and hang up the phone.

Received a call from someone and I let them take control of my computer. Now I can't do anything with it. The company was www.anydesk.com.

- Green Bay, WI, USA

I had recently purchased computer upgrades, and this company called and stated that some of the upgrades were obsolete, and needed to be upgraded. They were going to reimburse me $500. When I was told to import $500, it came across as $5000 . No they said I needed to reimburse them $4500 but they could not take check or withdraw the money out of my account which they hacked into at my credit union. I was dumb enough to get them $1500 in gift cards and send them the numbers until I realized that this just didn’t seem right. They threatened me, and swore at me saying they were going to empty my complete checking and savings account if I did not send the remaining money. I immediately called my credit union and had my account froze. The credit union states that they probably had a keystroke indicator that was able to read what I typed into the computer to open up my bank account. Even though I screen came up saying it was a secured site when I typed the information in . They were very convincing and persistent but I never heard about a scam that entailed gift cards for repayment. As soon as I heard about the swearing and threatening, I knew something was not right. They all had foreign Indian accents . He even repeated all of my information from my account as the password and username or identical. These foreign people got $1500 of my money. How can I be so stupid

- Midland, TX, USA

Froze computer screen, listed phone number to contact. (Supposedly connected to Microsoft) Said current Webroot Security system wasn't catching all of the computer breaches and additional software was needed. I ended up falling for it and lost money. If this happens to you, hang up on them and con tact authorities immediately. Do not give them any banking information or personal info either!

- Omaha, NE, USA

Heavy indian accent (I think), phone cuts out at times. Lots of background chatter. I say it's hard to understand him. He says go to computer and go this website to check out and download file. It says Thanks for downloading. By downloading you accept our license agreement and terms.
