I was looking at a listen for 2 bedroom that was listed at 1100 on Facebook market place the person ask for my number texted me and I replied I wanted to see the property and meet him we set up a time but he said he wouldn’t be able to come but I can do a self tour myself I ended up going on Rently and he was on the phone running me through every screen and telling me what to put as the answers the very first question was where did you see the listing I answered Facebook and the account got blocked he told me to remake another account but answer no to that question I proceeded to put my identification card and do a selfie and I got verified afterwards it ask for a payment of $2.00 I used my card and payed it now Rently it telling how to access the lock box I put the serial number of the lock on to the Rently app it told me the code I put it in and the door was unlocked I’m taking the tour of the place while he is on the phone we’re talking about it he tell me he is still waiting on his lawyer to approve my application but I need to send in my $100 application fee 2 hours later I get approved he told me if I paid the security deposit of $1000 that would secure it and he will no longer accept applications okay I send $900 on zelle later that day while I’m at work I received a call from progress residential about the property and how did I like the tour where did I see the listing and that they own that property I ask him was there any other landlord he told me No so that when I knew I got scammed I looked online and there’s similar stories of people doing this he would even take a money order which is when I should of known renting a place you have to see the owner or realtor and it’s usually money order cashier check
