Type of a scam Employment
Thank you for posting the article about current job scam. My son almost fell victim to one of them and only in the final stages of the so called “hiring process” did he speak with me and upon investigating I was able to show him parts of the scam that should have been red flags to him and why he needs to be more careful in the future.
He has been unemployed for several months and in my experience a perfect candidate for the work from home scams. He had interviews through Google chats with a “hiring manager” claiming to be from an established billion dollar pharma company (which he did research on), and was offered a high pay rate and also sent an “offer” letter. I found out there was never a phone conversation or an on site interview. I took a look at the offer letter and found spelling errors and that there was no address or phone information on the offer letter for the hiring company. The email also came from a gmail address and the scammer used the legitimate company’s name as part of her gmail address. Unfortunately, my son did sign and return the “offer letter” but apart from his name and home address no other personal information was divulged.
The fraudster is going to send my son a check to purchase work from home equipment from one of their vendors (we know how this scam works). Needless to say, we will shred the check. He has also blocked the individual from his chat.
I also asked him to call the HR dept of the actual company and convey the fraud. Your article opened his eyes and also made it easier for me to have a conversation with him. Thank you.
