I was offered a position at a company named Appen by a person on LinkedIn. I had to complete an application and then was offered the position as a data entry specialist for $50 an hour and $20 for training. She connected me to James Foltz who claimed to be an HR manager. I had to submit a photo of my state ID (Massachusettes license) front and back and get on the app Telegram to communicate with him. He told me that I'd need equipment for the position and that he'd pay off my credit cards so I could purchase the equipment which was an apple MacBook Pro, iPad Pro and iPhone 14 pro max along with $5000 in gift cards for software. He said once I did this I had to send the laptop, iPad and phone to get company software installed. The address was in Houston, Texas. I had to purchase the gift cards and take them out of the envelop and take a picture of the PIN and send it to him. I purchased $3500 in gift cards and spent $4,475 on the laptop, iPad, iPhone and cost to ship it to Houston (next day delivery). I realized I was being scammed and then asked for him to verify my employment and send me a copy of his company ID and send me a confirmation email. He sent me a copy, front and back of his ID but then failed to send me any confirmation and said it would come once I bought the remainder of the gift cards. Name of this person is James Foltz. He had his supervisor call me but this person couldn't verify anything. I looked this scam up on line and found that this is a common scam with the company Appen (which is a legit company). I have copies of all my receipts, photos of gift cards, text chain of all interactions on the telegram app. I've contacted my credit card companies and will continue contacting all the necessary agencies, companies and credit agencies.

I saw a remote job posted from Appen. I had contacted the “Hiring Manager”. After some questions I was told that I had gotten the job. After providing information I shouldn’t have, I was scammed out of $3,000. I cannot get ahold of this “company” and my bank will not cover me so I have to pay the amount back since they sent a fictitious check. I have filed a police report with my local police department but have not had any luck so far.

I was contacted on Facebook to apply for work from home. After asking to go into Google hangouts for an interview I was asked questions there and scored. When told I got the job I was told to provide banking info so I can be deposited money for equipment to start my work. I knew it was a scam. They also ask you to view the company website to learn about Appen which is a legitimate business. They ask for a picture of you and name address and phone number and email when you are hired. They have my picture. Not direct banking info. I reported to Facebook too.

Thought I was interviewing for a work from home job. The convo was going good so I gave my SSN and drivers license info. Then the convo started sounding fishy so I declined the offer. The guy said that he was going to share all my info and have me arrested or I have to pay him $200 in 5 hours. The address I provided was the address on the drivers license he sent me.
