Apple Tech Support (imposter) Reports & Reviews (1)

My Aunt Patricia who is 69, got a message alert on her computer on September 5, 2023, saying her computer was infected with a Trojan virus and she needed to call the number listed. She called the number and the man who answered said his name was Brad Williams from Apple support. He told her her computer was being used by someone in Mexico to download porn. He needs access to her computer to fix it. She granted him permission using TeamViewer. He talked her through downloading it. He said he would fix it. He then put her through to a “FBI agent” named Bryan A Vorndran. Phone number 202-324-3000, who had her go to the IC3 website and fill out a IC3 Elder Abuse form. Which she did and got this IC3 number 2700583162. He wanted her to download something else but she got suspicious and hung up. She called me and I told her it was most likely a scam and don’t call back. We called the actual Apple support number and was told they would never put a message like that on the computer with a phone number. In an attempt to stop any identity theft from happening, we placed a freeze on all her credit report agencies, notified all her banks, stopped all her credit cards and placed a fraud alert on her home title. I hope we did enough to stop any theft. Not sure at this point.
