Type of a scam Online Purchase
I made a purchase of $210 in product to receive free shipping, plus a $35 hazmat fee, total $245. The seller used Zelle, which I supposed was to avoid credit card fees. In good faith, I transferred the money. He then provided me a tracking number to a company called https://aramexlogisticsservice.com/.
I logged into that website, entered the tracking number, and was told I needed to provide $520 that was refundable upon receipt of the package. They cited a number of supposed US regulations that required that fee. Foolishly, I provided that money, again via Zelle. Once I did so, I was told they needed another $430 to complete the transaction and ship my package. At that point I refused, and demanded my original $520 be returned. They responded that it had already been transferred through accounting and that I couldn’t get it back until the package was delivered, which of course required the additional $430. They said I had been informed of all this by the seller, which is not true. I was also told that the agent that I worked with to transfer the $520 told me about the additional fee. I have a transcript of that chat, nothing was said.
At that point I went back to the seller, requested my order be cancelled and refunded. He refused. When I pointed out that he was remiss in not telling me how this all worked, he made lame excuses, never owning up to it. This was through texts, which I have copies of. Then he threatened me, saying he uses firearms and other such innuendo.
I am a senior citizen who has been taken advantage of, and threatened by the owner of a business. It seems these two companies are working together to rip people off, and I have been victimized by their lies and deceit. As of this morning, I am still receiving texts from the supposed shipping company. I hope this prevents someone else from being foolishly victimized like I was.
