Found the carpenter/woodworker on Facebook Marketplace (Joel Skinner or Joel Skinbner I discovered now that he goes by two names) he showed me his website and work. I showed Joel exactly what I wanted done he said he could do it. He sent me an invoice for how much the total project would cost (king size bedframe with 6 drawers.) I accepted the invoice and he generated a payment of $536.00 I had to pay to start the project. I paid $536.00 and notified Joel that the payment was made and his response to me was confirming the project will get started and he followed up then saying he couldn’t do exactly what I asked for. I should have reported him right then but I was out $536 so I accepted his response and the project was started. While the project was in the process of being built he told me he wasn’t as far along on it as he had hoped and I told him that was completely fine to take his time and I was in no rush I reassured him I want the job done right and not rush. Fast forward the project was finished and he showed me a picture. I was hesitant from the pictures he provided and questioned him he told me it was just camera and bad lighting. The next morning Joel was at my home of residence unloading it. He was quick to put it together and even started drilling holes into it in front of me saying he was eyeballing measurements and that I should number them with pencil so if I ever move I don’t have to guess which pieces go where. That made me feel uncomfortable because if you are eyeballing measurements in front of me what else did you eyeball NOT in front of me? I could not start inspecting because I w[censored]ding my mattress against the wall so that it did not tip over on him. He quickly cleaned his things up sent me the second invoice to pay $600 and said he didn’t need to stay while I paid that… that made me feel like something wasn’t quit right. He was very quick to dump this bedframe on me and did not want to stick around to make sure things were okay. He left and upon starting to inspect I come to realize the damage the bedframe had. I contacted him and his response was “he had no problem when it was in his possession” I then messaged him later only to find out he blocked my number. My messages were going through flagged red with a “not delivered” message meaning I was blocked. I contacted other local carpenters/woodworkers and showed them the damage and asked for advice. The damage consists of: Nails poking through the inside of every drawer, Nail poking out of bedframe, Broken wood on several corners, Dented wood in several places, Scratches an chipped wood, Drawer faces do not lay flesh with the frame they cave/ sink in and stick out, Drawers get jammed, Glued drawer faces are not staying together (detaching,) Paint work is see-through and has streaks of paint that ran down, The bedframe was not sanded or dusted before paint was applied, Wood cut unevenly leaving open gaps inside of the bottom of drawers, Middle slats are not spaced evening, Damage to my home of residence (walls.)

With this I got responses back telling me this is a scam, unprofessional, and inappropriate of Joel and that I should have never been sold a piece like this. One of the gentlemen I spoke to asked for his name and number and said he was going to confront him on this matter. Shortly after Joel unblocked my number and contacted me asking to do a phone call. All communication we had was through text and now he would only do phone call so I knew he didn’t want me to have any proof of how he scammed me. I proceeded to text him with what was wrong and sent photos but he responded saying he refuses to text. The next afternoon we spoke on the phone and the conversation started with Joel admitting he knows he built a poor quality bedframe for me and he built it that way because I only paid 1,136.00 and he would have built it better if I had paid him more. Upon hearing this I took out my laptop and started recording him. I corrected him saying that when I first contacted him I informed him that I wanted a solid and well-built bedframe that I can keep for a very long time and that was my reasoning for finding someone to build it. He chose the overall price of 1,136.00 there was no negotiating of prices I paid the price he told me it cost to build my bedframe. Every time I tried to speak he would interrupt me and talk over me. The conversation went nowhere and I do not feel comfortable with this man near me. In this process he not only scammed me of over 1,000.00 but he also damaged the walls of my home. I believe the work Joel shows as being “his work” is someone else’s because he claims to build mini homes but it is proven he is unable to even build a bedframe. I’ve discovered he uses two different company names (Artifex Studios LLC and Sonare Studios LLC) and two different last names (Skinner and Skinbner.) This man should not be in business doing the work he is doing. I have reported Joel to my bank and upon them seeing the evidence I have (photos of the bedframe, screenshots of messages with Joel, and screenshots of other carpenters reactions to this bedframe) they have said this is a very large and serious matter and clearly scam. I learned of ScamPulse.com through the fraud department of my bank who are the ones that highly suggested he be reported on here and that is my reasoning for submitting this.
