A company by the name of Asterisk Interactive contacted me saying they received my resume and would like to interview me. After signing up and getting into the interview, I discovered that it was a group "interview" where the "CEO" Lewis Morton gave a pitch for this company and talked about how they are expanding into North Carolina because they have a contract to do marketing with Spectrum. He said they would be doing one on one interviews another time and I held out the smallest morsel of hope and went on a second "interview" so I could ask questions and understand what this company did. This second interview turned out to be another group interview, this time with about five other people. The "interviewer," Ishan Rao, used buzzwords like "experiential marketing" and talked about having contracts with Spectrum and the New York Mets. When I asked what exactly he meant by "experiential marketing" and where or how we would meet the customer, he refused to answer. In a quick one-on-one setting, I asked again what he meant by experiential marketing and asked about the day-to-day of an employee. He evaded my question by saying, "Did you look at the website? We do experiential marketing by partnering with big box stores like Target and Walmart" and then told me that they do not discuss day-to-day activities until the third round of the interview. I know these kinds of companies and that they usually send out a workforce of young people to stand in the parking lot of a store and try to sell things. The hours tend to be long and the "employee" isn't paid a decent wage. I just don't want other people to think this is a real marketing job when it's not.
