I was contacted on my cell phone but did not answer. They left message requesting I return their call using the number shown on my caller id if I would like to participate in the promotion. The promotion was to receive a premium channel upgrade as well as a reduction of my monthly cable bill for three years for paying six months up front. I was instructed to use ebay prepaid cards as payment as ebay was participating in the promotion. My upgraded channels were activated on my home TV so I believed it to be legit. I then purchased and submitted the ebay cards totalling $325 only to receive a text message later saying there was an error in the transaction. I clicked on the provided link that came in the text to the so called billing department. They went on about how there was a dispute between ebay and the retailer I purchased the cards from. They wanted me to go to a different retailer and purchase new ebay cards and submit them so Direct TV could complete the transaction. I would then be reimbursed within 48 hours with gift cards and a letter of apology from Direct TV. That's when the bells in my head started ringing. I then obtained my monthly credit card statement and called the number on my statement that is posted with the charge to ensure I was calling the real Direct TV. There was no such promotion, their records show no contact with me and they would never ask for ebay cards for any payment. I was scammed.
