Type of a scam Family/Friend Emergency
My niece called me back on the cellphone and said she just spoke to her Brother and he was home and safe. My Mother was still hysterical and I told my Mother to try and calm down this must me a scam. She did not understand and I held the phones together and both Niece and I told Mom that Grandson/Brother/Nephew was fine and she just got off the phone with him. But Mom said the voice on the phone said it was the Grandson and he was driving to New Jersey and got into a car accident and needed money. We both insisted again to her they lied to her and Grandson/Brother just spoke to Sister on phone and is at home. Mom said she did not give any credit card info or banking info to anyone and began to believe Grandson was safe. I told her I would come right over to her apartment.
Before I went to Mom's place I called the bank to verify there was not activity, and they confirmed no transactions. When I arrived at the apartment, I went through the Caller ID and saw that there several attempts from the number listed above to call Mom. I blocked it from her directory. The calls were made to my Mother on 2/9/22 around 10:30am.
We were fortunate Mom did not lose any money, but I hope this helps so this trauma she is still enduring does not happen to anyone else.
