While researching pug puppies, my wife came across the website for Austin Family Pugs, which claims to be an American Kennel Club-registered breeder in Bloomington, Indiana. My wife contacted them via email to express interest in an eleven-week-old puppy, and they responded with additional information as well as a photo and short video of the puppy. Later in the day, before we sent payment, my daughters spotted the same video clip in a YouTube montage of pug puppies that had been uploaded in August 2019. My wife then found that all of the Austin Family's pug photos were on Instagram, and all were much older than eleven weeks. The supposed breeder sent payment information for their Venmo account this morning: @yungKmac400. The person gave names as Kevin Haynes and Mark Austin. After researching puppy scams we realized that the price should also have raised red flags - it is quite low for a purebred pug ($800 plus $150 for shipping). My wife informed them that we decided to find a puppy closer to home - she did NOT tip them off that we are aware of their scam.
