Type of a scam Employment
During the interview, the interviewer who identified herself as a director or HR, used the English language in what felt like a foreign dialect with incorrect grammar and punctuation. While she could be from another country, a person holding this title with a bioscience technology company should be more familiar with texting in English. And, issuing a check for equipment to a prospective employee without that employee signing any documentation-at least a letter of acceptance of the proposed offer-seemed very unprofessional. These factors along with the specific instructions on how to deposit that check inspired me to investigate further.
This is an elaborate scam as these people are not only impersonating the company, but the woman I was interacting with is impersonating the actual director of HR at Avidity. And the check I was emailed is from another company in Minnesota but Avidity’s website shows their corporate office in San Diego.
I kept delaying depositing the check until I could finish my “investigation” which resulted in me NOT depositing it. Just like the other report, I don’t want someone else to fall victim. After I asked for a letter of intent to hire before I would deposit the check, I haven’t heard from them again.
