I too have been scammed I believe...our city does have this Best of Monterey award, so fell for it. After going over the categories, I realized that there was a Best CPA award, but not tax prep service. Unfortunately, I did purchase the award, and am in the process of verifying with the local paper that runs the award...won't fall for this again.

Type of a scam Vanity Award Scam

A business email arrived today claiming to be some sort of award from the town I live in. I knew this was fake from the beginning as they want me to pay for the award. I knew the town I live in has no such business type of award since my town hates new business to begin with.

They sent some type of attachment which was never opened.

They included an opt out from marketing at the bottom of the page. never clicked

The address given is a virtual office space in NC

As a new business I wish for recognition from my town. I just know it would never have happened this way out of the blue.
