Received a phone call from a financial institution's bank credit card indicating that a fraudulent claim to a credit card was denied. They indicated that it was possibly due to an identity theft issue and we were "transferred" to someone from Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. After a lengthy conversation he indicated that their service would reduce credit card balances and reduce interest rates as per some federal law 'protecting senior citizens' from being charged 'excessive' interest rates and charges. They would send a "cease and desist' letter to all financial institutions in question. This service would also potentially freeze any and all accounts for a year. We continually refused their service and they continually tried to convince otherwise. It got to the point where we said thank you, refused any and all services and hung up. An hour later we received a call from a second financial institution's credit card indicating that they received an electronic correspondence indicating that they received a 'cease and desist' notification that we were working with a company to lower balances and rates. They said they would put me on hold and 'check out the company.' They came back indicating that the company was legitimate and a 'triple A rated' company with the BBB. They then began presenting us with the same information as the first call. Both calls, although masked to seem to be coming from the financial companies, were from Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

The issue is their predatory methods, masking their incoming numbers to represent themselves as financials, as well as using credit bureau information to support selling their services under false pretense,
