Bank of America Fraud Prevention Scam Reports & Reviews (1)

Received phone call from (800) 432-1000 claiming to be Bank of America Fraud Prevention, asking if I had indeed opened a new account and attempted to send money via Zelle (2 transactions). I had not and said as much. Caller issued “Cancellation ID#” then transferred me to “Zelle Fraud Prevention” to mark fraudulent transactions as canceled.

Next called attempted to have me log into my bank app’s Zelle portal and add a recipient using “CXL” as sender and the “Cancellation ID#” (which ended up being a phone number for someone named “Gabriela”) in order to “mark the transactions as canceled”.

Firstly, if you use Zelle through a bank mobile app, Zelle has no access to your banking, so this was the easiest red flag, but the initial call did successfully spoof BofA’s actual Fraud Prevention hotline so tricky stuff!
