Threatened a late fee 10 times the feasible amount they weee trying to connect. Seemed possibly legit because we live in the SF Bay Area and had recently traveled on a Fastrak highway.

I received a text stating "Your vehicle has been recorded using the FasTrak Express Lane. To avoid a bill with excessive late fees of 46.70$, kindly settle your balance of 4.67$ at https://bayareafastrakservices.com". I had been in the Bay Area recently but I hadn't used the express lanes, so I clicked the link to correct any mistake. When I clicked the website I received a "security error" saying not to proceed to this unsafe site. I next googled the phone number, which took me to this ScamPulse.com site where a previous person had registered a scam complaint. I also looked up the correct Bay Area Fas Track site and at the top there was a warning: "FRAUD ALERT: FasTrak does not request payment by text with a link to a website." . Note the misplacement of the $ in the scam text. Also note that the scam web-site was a ".com" not a ".org", as well as adding the word "services" to the scam web-site.

Text message with a link asking me to pay FasTrak toll. I HAVE NEVER OWNED A CAR. My phone number has been exclusively mine for 20 years and has NEVER ever been attached to any vehicle or vehicle related service.
