Type of a scam Employment
He said we could do an email interview since he couldn't do it face to face.
After the interview he sent me a job offer letter and asked me to sign it and send it back.
The listing looked real.
There was a map of the business, a website showing the type of business (consultants), and even a contact phone number.
The next day I was asked for proof of identification that has my residential address on it, I would be made a signatory to the companies expense account, he would be sending me a check booklet in my name via UPS.
He also said he would be setting up a company email for me and all communication would go thru that platform via google gmail.
I emailed him back a copy of my drivers license and received an email asking me to update my information on the new email he created for me.
After updating the email I requested we talk and he agreed and I contacted him the next day.
I wanted to make sure this was not a scam and also had concerns about having my name on the checks he was sending me.
After speaking with him I was still not certain this was legitimate, I asked if he could give me the human resources phone number so I could further confirm the information.
The phone number he provided me turned out to be a mobile number and not the company work number, no one answered however I received a text later saying he was in a meeting.
I decided to decline the job and sent an email requesting all contacts, and any packages to not be sent to me and to also remove my name from the company and also delete the email he created.
I did not get a response however the next day I did get a package from UPS with 2 booklets full of checks in my name with no company info listed anywhere on the checks.
I filed a complaint with the FTC and also visited the local bank which was listed on the checks.
The bank officer confirmed the checks were fraud, destroyed the 2 booklets of checks, and reported the incident.
Please be careful, This scammer went to great lengths to try to make it more real.
