Our 14 year old daughter saved babysitting money all summer to buy a dog. She researched breeds and found a great "deal" on a puppy in Texas. The breeder never gave a name and said he/she would only communicate via text (red flag). This was the first red flag. She asked for videos of the puppies she was interested in and they sent a couple. The videos appeared to match the puppies on the website. She was thrilled about the idea of getting a dog flown here within a couple of days for less than half of what local breeders were charging (red flag). They put pressure on her to choose quickly to secure one and get the process started. They never talked to her on the phone and didn't ask her any questions to make sure she was a good fit (red flag). The breeder said they could fly the puppy to us, they just needed a $350 deposit. She promptly paid the PayPal invoice they sent. They said they made a mistake and needed to cancel the first invoice and would have to resend another. She immediatly paid the second invoice of $350. This all happened within a matter of several hours while my husband and were gone. She updated us here and there but we never saw the communication that was happening between her and the breeder, she thought she was communicating with a woman to whole time. We took a closer look at the website when we got home and that's when I realized it was a scam. I couldn't find the name of the company or breeder, the spelling was off, the FAQ and testimonials pages were copied from other breeder sites, and the photos were all taken at different locations. I told my daughter not to communicate with the "breeder" anymore and that I would be taking over. They initially said they only wanted to communicate with me via text and I said no, I needed to talk to him/her. After several attempts, I finally talked to the "breeder." He had a thick African accent so I asked where he was from, he said he was calling from Texas (even though he was calling from a Virginia area code) but he was Jamaican. He clearly did not have a Jamaican accent. I told him my daughter was only 14 years old and he needed to end his communication with her and only talk to me. I told him we would not be going through with the purchase and needed our money back immediately. He said he understood, that he didn't know she was a minor and would be refunding us through paypal. I filed a case with paypal and reported the website to the FTC. The site needs to be shut down immediately.
