I went to a legitimate Best Buy website and contacted the geek squad from a phone number listed on that site. Believing this was totally legitimate, since I was on an official Best Buy website, I agreed to purchase a computer and monitor. I paid for the purchase and even received a confirmation email. Even though I was on a legitimate Best Buy website, it turned out to be a scam. I notified Best Buy and asked them to refund my money. They refused. I gave them a lot of proof that it originated with their website, but they still refused to reimburse me. Best Buy has since this occurrence, removed the phone number from their site but I have screen shots of their website listing the phone number.

Product was obviously Counterfeit from another country. Vanity PLANET microdermabrasion rotating facial scrub brush missing vital features: no battery install method at all. No wall plug with proper jack for charging. Instead, came with cordless phone USB cord and jack for phone. Bought in store. Product still on shelf last 2 visits to try & resolve or get the product to work. Supposed to be transferred to Fraud Dept to report-instead transferred me to CS for 25 min wait. Thrown out of store and treated like a Fraudster. BEST BUY HAS A HISTORY OF SELLING FRAUDULENT FLASH DRIVES 7 YEARS AGO.

I made extensive notes:

8/14 Bought new computer – also an external hard drive

9/18 As my husband was using the computer, it suddenly FROZE and a flashing message came on the screen that warned us that we had a serious virus. We were not able to do anything on the computer at that time.

I called Geek Squad and a technician was able to get into the computer and start working on it.

I TOOK GOOD NOTES: He told me we had major issues on the network…must have clicked on a link that was not safe. 37 Hackers were trying to take control. Told me there are three types of protection (1) – we already have which is MacAfee security, (2) internet security – our IP address and (3) Fortinet Fortigate 60F. Two parts to getting that – Buy licensing Best Buy cards then Geek Squad will bring in a device, it will stay in our home 2-3 days to run the firewall.

Each time I talked to the tech (Mike Yang) he would take control of my computer via SupportLogMeInRescue (as I have done many times with Geek Squad). Sometimes he would say he had to “run security” and it would take about 3 hours…then he called me back and I was fine for a few days. In total he and I talked about 25 times from 9/18 to 10/22.

To “install” this firewall, we had to have the licensing codes from Best Buy gift cards…they were ordered from Amazon on 10/14 and delivered on 10/15. BUT the Amazon warehouse did not activate the cards so they were no good. Then they ran out of Best Buy gift cards and we had to get Sephora gift cards the next time. Each delivery of gift cards, I had to give him the numbers from the back and the PIN.

This cost of $1500 was to be a deposit for the installation of the Fortinet firewall device in my home which would “be refunded” to me after 2-3 days!

On 10/17 we ordered $1500 Best Buy Geek Cards which were delivered 10/20…again I gave him the numbers. All that was left to do was to set appointment with Geek Squad for Saturday so they could deliver the Firewall apparatus. Those guys showed up (Mason and another guy). They thought they were supposed to set up Wi-Fi and did not have the Firewall. Both Mason and I tried to reach Mike Yang…I had two numbers for him – one was disconnected and the other had a voice mail box that was “not set up”.

The total now is $4500 which has been stolen from me. My Amazon account has NOT been refunded for the $3000 gift card purchases and neither has the Best Buy account for $1500.

11/9 - another call from "best buy geek squad" (this time on my home phone number)-- very apologetic, wants to help get money back...Daniel Watson (strong Indian accent!) asked me for all the details. I gave him the info and then he asked me what I wanted from BB. I said I want to cancel my tech support with BB and I want my money back because Amazon is coming after me for it. He said he could walk me through that on my computer and attempted to get me to open my bank account so he could put money onto my "cart". I told him I wanted a check instead. The call ended.
