I received a United States Priority Mail envelope with USPS Tracking # *** *** *** *** *** ** with a letter indicating Beta Research Corporation provides brand audits and retail audits for prestige businesses like Walmart. The letter was entitled "MYSTERY SHOPPER TASK INSTRUCTIONS and is signed by Daniel Branton, Senior Qualitative Director. They also sent a check for $2950.00 from Woodforest National Bank, PO Box 7899, The Woodlands TX 77367, Purchaser, Daniel Branton. The letter instructs me to purchase Walmart money orders worth $2,520.00 at the Money Center, in $850 denominations (3 pieces of $820). I was instructed to purchase an iTunes Gift card for $100 at Wal-Mart and text him pictures of the receipts and scratched out gift cards. Amount Received: $2950.00; Money Order (3 pieces) $2,460; iTune Giftcard $100.00; Salary $250.00. I was then instructed to text him once the check was deposited and when the purchase of the money orders will be completed and he would give me further instructions on how to complete the task. I did not cash check nor did I follow any instructions since it sounded too much like a scam; however, I did want to report it so that other people would not be scammed.

Recieved a check issued from First American Credit Union for 2,988.75, for the purpose of cashing, buying 3..$850. Postal money orders, and 10 books of stamps totaling $2,550.00 and the rest was mine.

I called the bank to confirm if this was or wasn't a legitimate check...she came back and said it was fraud and to take it to my police station if I could.
