Type of a scam Phishing
I am afraid he will use this info and take my unemployment somehow. I have just applied for unemployment and I am afraid that if I freeze my credit I may not get my unemployment money. I have been waiting for for nearly a year.
I since my recent declined application to Care Credit ( for my pet) I have received emails and phone calls but today, was a recorded voice telling me I had qualified for a credit rate adjustment from my standard credit APR to a drop between 0%-5%. "Just press one to be put through to a representative"
A man answered saying he was from the Better Business Bureau and Experian, he mumbled his name and asked mine. I asked for him to repeat himself. He said he was on a recorded line and repeated several times throughout the conversation that I "had pressed one correct mam?" he said that I had two or more cards and he named the cards an knew I was in the US. He said I had been paying my minimum payments ahead of time . He said that I had $2,000.00 on one card and $700 on the other.
I had just spent $2,000.00 on my dogs vet bills 3 weeks ago. and another $200.00 for the Vet consultation fee which had brought my total balance on the other card to $700.00.
I had not spoken to anybody about it so it seemed like it must be for real. But I had just applied for exactly that ,much through care credit.
He said he would not ask for personal information except my card number and only to verify recent activity. He also said he would not ask for my security number. but afterwords he did ask for the last four of my social.
I said I wasn't sure. I asked if he could give me more information about where he was from again. He said he was with the better business Bureau and the credit union he said it comprised Experian, Equifax and Transunion.
here is the Employee I.D. CS7747.
I called all of my cards and updated all of my security measures and froze all my accounts. He got mad at some point and said he could understand me thinking it was a scam "Your getting some call out of the blue, mam, I would be scared too, I could be an angel one moment and then pull the plug and take everything away right?"
This is what convinced me he was fake. The customer service representatives are trained like flight attendants to keep people cal and never illustrate catastrophe.
At the end of the call he said he was from Visa and realy enjoyed talking to me.
I felt a minute in like I was being held at gun point, like if I made him mad he might be able to do something with all the info he had on me. He had alot of information on me when he called. I figured I might be safer freezing my accounts. He mentioned that I would receive a call in 5 minutes. My stomach sank, that sounds so much like a robber telling you to give them 5 minutes to get away.
