Beyond Forestry Reports & Reviews (1)

- Newark, DE, USA

I was contacted online thru a dating extension of Facebook, by a man named "Alex Holmem" from Baltimore MD, originally from New York, allegedly the owner of Beyond Forestry (web site: https://beyondforestrytb.com). He said forestry was a family business. He sent photos of himself with his parents and he told me he was originally from Malta. I had no reason to doubt he was who he said h was, and I didn't look p "Beyond Forestry" until recently.

We chatted on FB for a while and then transferred to text messages, all of which have been saved. He eventually said he was sending me money which I was to relay to others. He said he was currently located deep in the Oregon woods, harvesting logs for an Ikea contract. He sent me pictures of the letter he received from Ikea and claimed he was behind on delivery and had to be onsite to make sure the order was being filled. I had several phone calls from him as well, all documented on my phone.

I was asked to send $200 by Bitcoin to one of his "suppliers" and buy $350 Apple gift cards for him. I took pictures of the backs of the gift cards and sent them to him. Then there were several Zelle transfers to "suppliers" as well. The total amount was between $1700 and $1900. Most were for $100, but one, which I didn't make, was for $900.

I'm not sure how he got access to my account, but he told me he would be sending me checks to help me with rent and living expenses because I as homeless. He was very concerned about my living situation and wanted to help me get an apartment as soon as possible.

Naturally, I was overwhelmed. He was doing mobile deposits into my account. There were three checks for $2500, and two for $1800 over a month’s time.

I started receiving messages from the Santander fraud department, regarding the checks, which said the checks were "questionable" and the deposits would be “delayed.”

When I told Alex in a phone call he was surprised. He claimed he had sold some specialty logs to someone who contacted him through Craigs List. The checks were from the log purchasers and he had deposited them into my account! I never saw the checks as they were mobile deposits. When I did see a copy of one check I was shocked to see it was made out to ME!! I had nothing to do with the sale of logs or any part of his transaction if there ever was one.

I never fully understood why he was putting all that money in my account and I didn't understand how he Was making mobile deposits in the first place. He said I had given him access so he could "monitor the transactions I made" for him. It didn't seem unreasonable at the time, though I didn’t recall giving him my passcode but I really wasn't concerned as I trusted him. After all, he owned a huge logging firm.

It did seem a little odd that he was "cash poor" for the owner of a large logging operation and that he had to employ me to send money to vendors. Wouldn't there be an accounting employee to handle that? I checked on the website for information and Alice M schooner was listed as being Head of Accounts. Wouldn't that be her job?

During a phone call, he said he wanted me to do it because of a situation at the company and he didn't want his associates to know what he was doing all the time. I suspected he was doing something dishonest and said so. He claimed there was nothing to be concerned about it all had to do with taxes!

A lot of this was happening simultaneously so this isn't a timeline. And it's a bit confusing as it was for me at the time. I had started to develop feelings for Alex through our personal exchanges, so I gave him the benefit of the doubt.

Then he asked what carrier I used for my phone. I told him I used AT&T. That's when he started to order "equipment for the company since they were upgrading and going full digital", or something like that. It's in the texts. All in all, he ordered four (4) iPads @ $1999 each and two Apple watches because he said he broke his Apple Watch and he wanted to buy one for his foreman. Everything was sent to a logistics company in Chicago for transport to Oregon. He said this was the only way they could get goods and supplies delivered to them In the woods!

I have the shipping labels and receipts for UPS.

iPads and Apple watches were sent via UPS to:

AC Logistics c/o Knox Expr3ess

1440 West Taylor St #1218

Chicago Il 60607

Altogether, the watches and the 4 iPads come to around $10K. I paid to ship three packages and he sent me one prepaid label. I have all the receipts and photos of the watches and the ID labels from the iPad shipping boxes.

In addition, these items are on my AT&T account and “Alex” was to pay off the entire amount when the first bill came with auto -pay. Then he changed his mind and decided to pay them off monthly via Time Pay. I don’t doubt there will not be any payments to my account by Mr. Holmem.

The first bill came and the amount is $600 +!!

I’m devastated that I was so foolish and allowed myself to be deceived.

I’ll send all the screenshots I can to document text messages and get what phone records I can.

What also concerns me is that Alex’s profile is still on the FB dating site and he may be swindling other women as he did me. Clearly, they have targeted older women in addition to using their website to attract investors. His website offers numerous investment opportunities. This is a far-reaching site with many attractive enticements. I wouldn’t doubt that this is an international group of individuals who are looking for people wanting to invest in recreational areas as well as locations for second homes.

Whiteness to this fraud includes Santander employees at the Kennett branch and the Avondale branch where I received the most help gathering evidence of transactions on my account, as the Fraud department had frozen my account. The bank later took all my money, including my Social Security check, from all my accounts to cover fraudulent transactions leaving me with nothing. I also have a negative balance of $1235.00 with s the balance to the fraudulent deductions from my account. Santander thoughtfully closed all my accounts after taking all balances including my Social Security check leaving my creditors unpaid. This was done without any notice, and the bank terminated its relationship with me after 46 years. There was no notice or discussion. It was done through the fraud department. I was told their decision was final.

I didn't look up "Beyond Forestry" (http://beyondforestrytb.com) until recently and discovered that the mailing addresses listed are vacant lots or private homes in remote areas or empty lots.

I have since spoken to the Oregon Department of Forestry and was told they had never heard of Beyond Forestry and they aren't aware of any company owning the land holdings they claimed on their website.

As a means of recovering $2450.00, Santander emptied all three of my accounts without notice, took my Social Security Check for $1898, and canceled all my Bill Pay activity on June 2, 2023, leaving insurance, credit cards, service accounts, and other vitally important payments either unpaid or REVERSED!! This was all done without any notice to me. They also claim I owe the bank an additional $1235! THIS AMOUNTS TO $3133. THE ZELL TRANSFERS ADDED TO THE BITCOIN AND CASH WITHDRAWAL COMES TO $2450. THAT'S A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE.

Could Santander Bank be trying to defraud me as well?!

*Banks are generally required to reimburse customers for forged checks. However, based on individual circumstances, a bank can investigate to determine if the customer is entitled to a reimbursement.

Generally, a bank is liable for accepting a check that has been forged, altered, or improperly endorsed. However, the bank may not be liable if

? it accepted the check in good faith, and

? the customer's failure to exercise ordinary care substantially contributed to an alteration or forgery.

* You are responsible for reviewing your periodic statement promptly and notifying the bank of any problem check(s).

Generally, you have up to 30 days from the statement date to find the problem check(s) and inform the bank. Notification requirements may vary by bank and state. Review your deposit account agreement for policies specific to your bank and your account. You should contact the bank directly regarding any alleged error(s).

(The account was frozen and I was unable to access any records online)

* However, even if you were negligent, the bank may still be required to reimburse you if you can show that the bank failed to exercise ordinary care in handling the check.

Contact the bank immediately if you believe there is an error on your statement, as there are required timeframes for notifying the bank of an error. If your bank is a national bank or federal savings association, and you are unable to resolve the issue with the bank, file a written complaint with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency's (OCC) Customer Assistance Group.
