My husband had an bill that we had an outstanding balance on. The number called and said they were debt collectors for Piedmont Imaging. He asked for my husbands name, date of birth and account number. They didn't ask for his social security number or anything, so we thought it was legit. He said we had a balance of $230.00 which was close to accurate. The man also said he could see where we had been making payments for the last several months, which was accurate. He said that he was able to set up payments for us, and since we had just made a payment, that they would not begin until the following month. About 2 weeks later, we received the agreed upon paperwork. When I started to make a payment, there was not an online option. I had paid my other 4 months online and found it fishy. I then typed in the account number and it was not found. A phone number was provided in Spanish, which I called and no answer. So, I went back to my original bill online and it was there with my old account number on the businesses real website. It was also $50.00 cheaper. I am so glad that I did not give out too much information on the phone like SSN or credit card number.
