We were contacted by the scammer several times for a year or so regarding buying wood from his business, BioEconomy Solutions. After some due diligence over the course of 6 months, we agreed to buy milled wood (Paulownia). In all of our conversations, emails and on his website, he represents himself as a well established quality wood mill, with images of beautiful high quality wood, talk about the forest lands he owns, etc. We ordered roughly $1100 in wood and paid $600 for freight. Paid up front before the material was shipped. We had specific requirements for quality, lengths, widths, moisture content etc. However when the wood arrived, it was absolutely not what he promised. Some was rotten, some had large defects down the length. Some of the wood was weathered and old, warped, and milled with zero regards for consistency. I immediately sent the scammer photos of the wood and he claimed that his workers were new, had never run a mill before and didn't know to change the blade. He went on to explain that he was a "simple country boy, a first generation sawmill owner with very little experience". This was extremely frustrating as it is the exact opposite of what his website shows. He said it was his fault and was committed to making it right and wanted to build a long term relationship with us. He agreed to replace 50% of the wood and said he would mill more up and would send photos before shipping. After that, he completely disappeared. He stopped answering his phone, stopped returning calls and emails etc. I eventually sent him certified letters to the three different address I have for him, letting him know that if I did not hear back from him by today, that I would submit this complaint. Several days later he emailed saying they were terminating their lumber business and we'd be receiving a check for the 50% of what we paid, minus some extra shipping charge he incurred that had nothing to do with us. We did receive the check for the reduced amount, but we have not cashed it. I have emailed him saying we expect the full 50% refund but sadly he's gone MIA once again, not returning any of my emails. My hope with this filing is to help make sure no one else gets duped by him in the future.
