My mother was a target for a cryptocurrency scam. The scammer (posing as a rich Singaporen woman living in the US) messaged her through Telegram everyday for a total of almost 5 months. My mother believed to be making money by putting money in a trading site (called Bitexxbuck) which was fake. She was made to trade every two days or so and keep her funds until she reach 3,000,000 on the site. Then when she tried to transfer the funds out she had to pay for a verification fee of 20% of her winnings which came around 700,000. She was encouraged to take out loans, savings, and borrow money from family members to add funds and pay the fee. Very elaborate and destructive scam.
