BlackLight Slide Reports & Reviews (3)

We found this event on Active.com which is a web site for runners with list of running events in your area. A couple of years ago we did similar events that were 5K Bubble Run and 5K Blacklight run and we really excited to do this event as well. It was really disappointing to find out that for the amount of money we paid for 2 adults and 1 child that is 6 years old to participate this event didn't have any run in it at all. On top of almost 90.00 for participation we had to pay 10.00 for parking. First of all it wasn't in any shape or form a sporting event and it wasn't family event either. Our expectations were 5k run/walk with black lights and than slide at the end, instead it was purely organized slide only with the whole bunch of yelling young drunks around. Nowhere on the web site during the registration was it mentioned that you cannot go on the slide if you do not have a tube. Tube purchase was actually optional. So what did we pay for 90.00?

When we realized that there is no 5K run, we were forced to buy 1 tube (that was optional during registration and I wasn't going to spend more money than I already did), stay in very long line and let our son that is under age slide by himself just 1 time. How come it's not safe to slide without tube (again if it was optional during registration, what did we pay for), not safe to slide with your underage child, but organizers allow kids to go on top of the slide without adult supervision (parents were not allowed to guide them if they didn't have tube). On top of all that, the weather was cold 65F with light rain. I understand that organizers cannot control the weather, but they did not postpone this event to more suitable weather either.

Sells tickets to events that are not real

My friend and I were looking to do a 5K in our area, and we stumbled upon the BlackLight Slide. We went onto their website and the website where the tickets were being sold, which is by the owner, Cool Events LLC, which I now know has terrible reviews on BBB. Anyway, on the website, it still currently is being advertised as a 5k run. So, my friend and I thought it would be great to do a 5k at night and enjoy a cool off with these huge slides they promise. We bought our tickets and as it turns out it’s not a 5k run at all. It’s actually just a water sliding event. The first thing I did was contact their email address. I know they have a no refund policy, as they did put it on the registration, and the initial generated email they sent me reminded me of this fact. The first guy I speak to, Ryan W, I ask him what can be done as they falsely advertised as a 5k on a race website. A few days go by and they don’t email me, so I email them again. This time I’m speaking to a new team member, Daria G. She gives me the option to either give someone else my ticket, or transfer to another race. And so I choose to transfer to another race. She gave me four options: three of which are not in the New York area, and one that is. I obviously choose the event that is actually a 5k and is in my area. I am then told there is a $10 “insurance fee” that they cannot wave, which would come out to $39.95 in total. I remind her that I already paid $33.58, which means I should only have to pay $6.37. The woman emails me back and says actually you have to pay $50 which includes event fees and registration fees. And I remind her that I already paid for the event fees and the registration fees, under the false pretenses that the BlackLight Slide was a 5k. She stopped emailing me at this point. A week goes by and still no email. I email them again, and they send a generic generated response. And I email them again. Once again, a different team member, Pam L, responds to me and states that I can no longer switch my ticket to the event that they originally said I could. I email her back and ask why AGAIN I was given wrong information? And they haven’t responded. I have sent two emails asking for them to respond to me, to no avail. This company is just trying to scam you out of money. If you read reviews on the BlackLight Slide, the BlackLight Run, or the Foam Glow event they all have really terrible reviews. DO NOT waste your money or time trying to argue with these people, as they are severely misinformed and useless. As a side note, I’d like to point out that when I signed up for the event, they had a very vague paragraph about a children’s hospital they donate to. They never specified what hospital, and they never specified how much they were donating of the funds they make. I checked back on their sight today, and all of a sudden there’s this elaborate story about “their daughter” who was misdiagnosed and how these events came to be. There’s also a new slideshow with a slew of charities that they “donate” to now apparently. Honestly, this company is so deplorable that they will do anything to get money. They’ll even stoop so low to conjur up false stories and charities that they supposedly donate to.
