Type of a scam Employment
I decided to cautiously treat the person claiming to be Mr. Herbert as though they were legitimate until I had proof otherwise but would not share any information with them that was not included on my resume. I scheduled an interview for later that evening and was surprised and again suspicious by the revelation that the interview was to be conducted via the app Telegram Messenger. I went along with the interview, remaining careful not to reveal any information which was not listed on my actual resume. After completing the interview I was almost immediately presented with a job offer. Which, again, deepened my suspicion. I was sent an email from the address [email protected]. This too was suspicious, as the website for Blossom Spring Publishing is blossomspringpublishing.com, not blossomspringspublishing.com. The email contained a PDF document of an offer letter. The letter itself contained a number of grammatical errors and incongruities. I asked about them but was not given an answer. Ireached out to Blossom Spring Publishing via both the company website and the company Facebook page to explain that I had been offered a position with the company that I found suspicious and to inquire as to the legitimacy of “Alan Herbert” as a representative of the company. As of the time of writing, I have yet to receive a response.
The next day, I was sent an email containing a PDF file of a check for $2,300 made out to one Kelly Sheree ***** along with instructions that I was to print the check out and deposit it into my bank account via a mobile banking app. I did not do this. I was contacted again via Telegram Messenger with instructions that I was to purchase a number of software licenses to install on a MacBook Pro that was going to be shipped to my address and that my purchases would be refunded in full. I did not do this. I inquired as to why it was necessary for me to purchase licenses at all, arguing that certainly the company could purchase the licenses and then provide me with the download key upon the arrival of the supposed MacBook. I was told that it was standard business practice to have new hires purchase their own licenses.
At about that time, I was contacted by a representative of Indeed replying to my inquiry from the previous day. I was told that Indeed had no knowledge or record of the company Blossom Spring Publishing and that my resume had not been shared with any entities aside from those to which I myself had applied.
