I saw an ad for deeply discounted BOGS Footwear. My husband recently mentioned wanting new ones and asked me to be on alert about any discounts as it could be a welcome Christmas gift for him. When I saw this particular ad, it looked like it was from the BOGS Footwear folks themselves. I clicked on it and the boots were all about 80% off. I do not usually fall for these types of scams but I was a bit naive and believed it to be true and purchased 4 pairs (for the whole family) to get the free shipping. It came out to $77 USD supposedly.
I provided my email and my credit card info. I even created an account because they did not allow checking out as a guest. So they have my address too.
After the fact I got nervous when I saw the confirmation email. It did not look legitimate at all. I started digging and confirmed my suspicions. I tried emailing their customer service to ask for the order to be canceled and then went to dispute the charge through my credit card provider. I saw that the company, based in China, had already tried to process two charges, both for amounts higher than the $77 I supposedly had spent. I have reported these as fraudulent and have cancelled my credit card. I still feel shaken and worried because the scammer has my name, email and mailing address information.
