This person knocked on my door and told me he was a contractor for the state to fill in the pothole outside my house. He said he had extra materials and can do some of our driveway with the leftover asphalt at a discounted rate, but he doesn't have enough for the full driveway. We agreed, he wrote a receipt down about it and said he would come back in a couple hours. He comes back later with an entire truck of asphalt and tried to redo the entire driveway without letting me know he is here. He was very unprofessional, laid down 2 feet of asphalt before we could say "no" and was refusing to give a price estimate before we refused to pay him. He was very unprofessional and screaming and yelling and calling us names and was going to just leave the pile of asphalt on our driveway. He originally wanted $2,000. We said no. We eventually settled on $1500 check. Then he was screaming about how he wanted cash. We refused. They finished overlaying the asphalt and only then did we give him the check. He said there is a 3-year warranty, written on the very unprofessional receipt. But there is no website for the company and when I asked for the contact number of the company (BPR), he never answered. I contacted my local government and they say this company (BPR) is not contracted by the city and that the state doesn't contract work to fill in potholes. In summary, he used a ruse, forced his work onto our driveway, was unprofessional about it, and now is no longer answering my texts. I am not sure if there is anything we can do about it now, but I wanted this to be known to prevent others from being scammed. I fear retaliation, I just want to prevent others from being scammed.
