Type of a scam Employment
Prior to that he asked about deposit limit, bank questions related, and asked for credentials (which that was a red flag and I started to question things) I still went on to deposit the check with the help of Mark. I called my bank immediately and asked for more security and explain the situation. I kept this to myself and Mark then said to check back in via app next following day at 8am my time.
I called my bank early that morning and said I was to go to the branch to get more information on the deposit check. That morning Mark asked to view my deposit however, my bank had put a restriction and I wasn’t able to access that. Since I wasn’t able to go to the bank right at that moment Mark vía the app had proceeded to ask for more information and I quote,
“we will have to set up an account for you with the California Employment Development Department. We currently have an affiliation with them. The account will be used to complete and authorize your employee profile and account. We will have to create an account for you using our affiliation number and ticket.
Please provide the following information.
Date of birth
Ssn
Front and back copy of your driver’s license or state ID card.
All these are needed to conduct a soft credit check which will not affect your credit score.”
I didn’t send any of that information since I didn’t feel secure and I told him I will do so later that I was busy with work. I went to my bank and they told me that the check was a “counterfeit check” and I explained to what had happen a manger had to get involved and I had my account shut down and had to get a whole different account.
I told Mark I was no longer interested in the position due to the counterfeit check and the lack of integrity. He then said that’s not right all my team was able to successful do it. I got the offer letter sent which looks legit but bc of the check I decline and want nothing to do with these people and their scams. Luckily I didn’t get out any ssn, I’D or further information. I screen recorded the whole interaction and have screenshots of emails. Please be safe this can happen to anyone doesn’t matter age, gender, or race.
If this can help anybody please listen to your gut and if you are able to get some type of digital secure to check for your information to see if it’s secure please do so!!!
