- Excelsior, MN, USA

On 10-31-18 I was looking at cars for sale on Craig's List - Memphis, TN. I found Craig's List posting ID # 6731251936 for a 2015 Chevrolet Suburban LT for sale for $8,500.00 with pictures. I sent an email/text message to the poster requesting additional information. I received a text request for my email address so they could answer my questions and send additional pictures. The request came from Kristine Berg - email address [email protected]. She thanked me for my interest and provided more pictures and details about the vehicle. She advised that her husband had passed away a month ago from a heart attack and that she and her daughter were selling their home in Memphis and moving in with her parents and that she had no use for the vehicle. I replied to her that she could consider the vehicle sold and that I would fly to Memphis the following week, inspect the vehicle and pay her in cash then drive it back to Minnesota. I had provided her with my name, address and home phone number as well as my cell number. The following day she called from Sandstone Minnesota(caller I.D.) 320-216-0787 and advised that she was not in Memphis but was with her parents at their home and she wanted an escrow company, Brookings Logistics to handle the transfer of the car and the money and they would be in contact with me as to how to get the money to them. She further said that she hae delivered the car to them and they would get in touch with me. I did not hear from them that day or the next so I called Brookings Logistics from their website number, 320-281-0639. A male advising his name was Alex Lopez answered. I identified myself and told him I was expecting to hear from him concerning the handling of the transaction and that this sounded almost to good to be true. The phone went dead. I thought we were disconnected and called him back immedately. Disconnected once again. I decided that there was something wrong with one of our phones so I called him on my home phone and was disconnected once again. I decided the problem was on his end and told my wife that we would just run up to St.Cloud, pay them and drive the vehicle back. My wife and I drove to St. Cloud and low and behold there was nothing at the 4765 Heatherwood Road address. I wen intoanother businee which was next door to the aeddress and ask the lady if she knew of Brookings Logistics and she said she never heard of them. I gave her the address and she pointed to the building next door and said the number of that building is such and such and that address should be between them and us and there has never been anything between our businesses. I thanked her and went to my car. I then realized that this was a scam attempt and thanked God that I didn't get caught by it. My wife and I went to the St.Cloud police department to give them a heads up about the scam and they advise that as we did not lose any money that no law had been broken and there was nothing that they could do. When we got home I checked Craig's List other cities for similar postings. I found the same ad in Texarkana, AR posting ID #6727577517 and in Little Rock, AR posting ID #673112190. I also checked the Secretary of State for Minnesota and there is authorized business listed as Brookings Logistics any where in Minnesota.
