I called the number, like an [censored], & a guy answered and told me I was on a recorded line. He said before he could tell me what this was about he needed to confirm my personal information – LOL. And I said before we continue I needed to know what this was about because I’m not giving my personal information to anyone. He persisted on trying to get me to confirm the last four digits of my Social Security number (Which he had!) and again I declined and said what is this about, even if it’s just general info. and he wouldn’t tell me anything. He got defensive & said “I can confirm where I sent the letters to & you can confirm the address”! I said again I’m not giving you any personal information until you give me something credible i.e. is this debt medical, credit, etc.? I have good credit and I don’t get collection notices. He finally said that it was for a “short term loan”... I guess that’s another way of saying “payday loan”.
At that point I told him I didn’t take out any payday loans and I was not willing to talk to him. I think he hung up before I did while being mad that I was “talking over him”.
My regret is that I confirmed my cell number and my husband’s cell number essentially by calling them back. So lesson learned people ...if you don’t know this, don’t even bother to text or call them back. I thought I was doing the right thing by calling but I won’t give anyone my personal information to scammers unless I’m 100% sure. Thankfully I didn’t answer anything but he still knows my phone number :/
Called and couldn’t understand the lady. It was a collection call or something I didn’t verify my info as correct and she hung up.

"This message is for (name omitted). Our office has made several attempts to contact you. Please call us back regarding (reference #) at 877-579-2927. Thank you.
I'll preface this with I ALWAYS knew this was bull[censored]. I have stellar credit, have multiple service that monitor my credit and provide fraud protection. I have no accounts in arrears and haven't in over 7 over years, but I gave 'em a call anyways.
I call and simply tell them I got a text message saying to call this number. She was able to tell me what my name was and asked me to verify the last 4 digits of my social... which she provided (scary!). I immediately requested additional information and she refused without getting verification first. I told her I was calling bull[censored] and that I was certain this was a scam. She got mad, yelled at me, and the hung up the phone. Classy.
I call back.. another individual, male this time, answers and requests the reference #. A bit of back and forth in determining why he required the # when the first lady didn't. I request additional information just as I had the first. He tells me he works for a collection agency named Brooks and Wiseman. When I tell him that I've Googled his company and Google tells me that it is a scam he says he can transfer me back to first person I talked to? Why? FFS.. Do people really fall for this crap?
I will say that I have had my fair share of collection/credit woes, but I never had a debt collector hang up for the phone on me. Legit debt collection is relentless and I can assure you their SoP will never include disconnecting for the consumer.
