I have applied several work from home translator job through Indeed. Today, someone identified himself as James Fernand and a recruiter at Buchanan County Economic Development Commission (BCEDC) texted me saying he has an opening position for me. Right off the bat, Indeed does not have the number he texted = SCAM! And I believe Indeed does not give out the phone number. But I wasn't really thinking, so I replied to have an interview set up. James was too eager to set up an interview for me. Still I agree to a Skype interview. I thought it would be a Skype VIDEO interview. However, the "interview" was done by chat only. = another alert! I have to give them though that the questions the interviewer Dean Hamblin gave me sounded legit. But the name sounded fake and he, too was too eager to hire me. After I answer the questions, I was asked to come back on Skype in one hour and he would give me the company decision. 50 minutes later, he skype messaged me saying that I was hired and an employment letter would be emailed. Up to that point, his English (questions, response and company information etc.) was excellent. But when I started asking questions, his English started being sluggish. He started asking if I have Macbook Pro, Peachtree Accounting, Microsoft SQL server, and so on. When I said no, he said the company will send me a Macbook with all the (expensive) required software installed for free. But at the same time, he stated those software and hardware are expensive and if I have enough fund. When I asked if he was suggesting that I have to purchase those, he said "from the vendor (for big discount)" and the company will send me a check to cover all the cost. I told him I am not paying anybody. Then he quickly replied that he can email me the check and I can deposit it using bank app. He was very eager that I would sign the employment letter and email back to him. I told that I can email him tomorrow morning around 9:30am (CST) and I do not have the bank app. Another red flag was that his email's domain was growbuchanan.us. I had checked the BCEDC's website and the domain should be .com not .us. I will Skype him back tomorrow to decline the (fake) offer. I just wanted to report this because they had a legit looking company letterhead and close enough email domain.
