Called by Business Technologies and asked if we could use a certain printer toner cartridge (knew the brand and type we used in the office). They said they worked with my company several times before and that's how they knew what cartridge we used, first he implied it would be at no charge, due to a shipping error with another order. I took this to mean they were a subsidiary company of Staples since they are also located near Atlanta where we receive our shipments from. He verified my address, and then said it would be 10% off. Fast forward to receiving the package: there are two printer cartridges, but they are an obscure brand. I didn't open them. Received an invoice for $477.15 (we normally pay our current vendor Staples $62 a piece for each toner cartridge.) I called to tell the company I wanted to send them back because they were asking almost $500 for two cartridges. I was told by Accounting department "they made a mistake on the invoice." The emailed me a new invoice for $99.00, but told me over the phone that if I "paid with a credit card like most people" I will get an additional 10% off. Sent me a third invoice for $88.00. This is when I contacted my company's Procurement Manager and reported this. I was told to send the product back to the company with a tracking number. I spoke with the same person in Accounting at Business Technologies and he told me he would fax me a return shipping label with tracking so I could send them back. I still haven't received a shipping label or tracking number. I don't know if Business Technologies is a real company or a scam, but I feel there were too many "red flags" in this situation.
