This wa a Facebook Marketplace sale of $100 for a billiard light fixture and they said that they could make the payment through Zelle associated with my email associated with Zelle. They then said that they had made the payment and I received an email from ‘Zelle’ stating that I needed to send $200 to upgrade my Zelle to a business account in order for the transfer to be approved and sent to my account. I sent the $200 using the link that would then be credited to my account, and then shortly after received another Zelle email saying that I needed to send another refundable $500 to finalize the transaction. That’s when I finally realized it was a scam. I played along for awhile and they tried to get additional funds with subsequent verification of the transactions and screenshots sent through the email. They encouraged me to submit any questions to Zelle through the email account. I tried to cancel the pending $200 transaction through Zelle, but Ally told me that it may not happen and that all paperwork would be sent through the mail.
