Scammed out of $1100. I tried to do my due diligence. Called references, checked photos etc. There was a contract involved. Something did seem off and I should have trusted my gut instinct. I just hope no one else falls for the scam. Email used was [email protected]

I purchased a kitten from the website www.kinfolkexoticshorthairkittens.com. I initially sent $800 via Zelle to Danny Lewis after contract signing, then another $600 after receiving a confirmation. I later was asked for pet travel insurance with 3 coverage options to choose from beginning at over $1400. Danny Lewis claimed he wasn't aware of this requirement, but assured me it was refunded after delivery. That's when i stopped everything and asked for a full refund. After a few email exchanges and told my money would be returned only to receive nothing, I filed a police report. It's considered felony theft. Moral of the story...check with CFA or FICA for legitimate breeders. End the end I will still get a kitten and Danny will learn that the $1400 he received from me is not worth the jail time he will get if he chooses not to pay me back.

My wife and I purchased a cat from the website I indicated. We paid through Zelle in my PNC bank. The cat cost $1160 and we paid the breeder an extra $265 for a nanny to accompany the cat while driving from MA to us in NYC. She was supposed to arrive 11/28. The shipper used by the breeder was called “express global cargo mover.” They emailed me 11/27 first saying the cat was sent, then sent another email that “TSA pet control check was ongoing” and then another email saying that she would “die or fall sick” during the trip if I didn’t pay them either 2000, 2800 or 3500 for an “Asian approved…crate and vaccines.” When I tried to reach out to both breeder and shipper neither could provide me with an in service phone number but both said they would call me.

The shipper told me they had the cat and that they were going to put her in a truck with hundreds of other animals and then she would take an airplane. They could not provide flight number or tracking information. They also told me they needed to vaccinate her to relax her and I needed to pay them for that and for a new crate. I could choose to pay 2000, 2800 or 3500 depending on which class crate I chose. They told me I had 1.5 hours to pay them and that I should call the breeder with my concerns.

I knew when I got the emails from the shipper that we were being scammed. I texted the breeder that they needed to call me immediately which he did. I explained the shipping issue and he said I needed to take care of it. I knew at this point that he was involved as he was very unconcerned about the cat, the situation or my concern. I reminded him that we had paid for a nanny to drive with her and he said no it’s a drive then a plane. I asked for flight information, his name and a call back number and he stated his name was Barnes and nothing else. I told him I knew it was a scam and that I would be contacting the police and my bank and he said “ok I know.” I told him we had a few options as I saw it, 1. He could refund me my $1465 and forget it, 2. He could contact the shipper and sort it out (since he had previously stated he had used them many times before) or 3. I would contact authorities. He told me he would sue me.

I have already contacted my bank to initiate the fraud proceedings to get my money back. I have emails to and from both shipper and breeder, texts with both shipper and breeder, and voice recordings of two phone calls. Please let me know how to proceed as both of these companies (the shipper and the breeder)appear to be scamming and frauding people. Thank you.
